Munir Jalil - Director Senior Economist, Andean Region, Citibank
Munir joined Citi in 2009 as the head of the research department of Citibank Colombia. From Bogotá he provides coverage for Colombia, Venezuela, Ecuador and Peru.
Munir holds a BA in Economics from the Universidad del Valle and a Ph.D. in
Economics from the University of California, San Diego. Prior to joining Citi in 2009, he worked for 10 years at Banco de la República (the central bank of Colombia) where his last position was Researcher and Advisor to the Inflation and Macroeconomic Programming Department. Part of his duties included working on the writing of the staff technical recommendation to the Monetary Policy Board. He has held visiting positions at the University of California, San Diego.
He has been lecturer at the most renowned Colombian Universities: Universidad de los Andes, Rosario, Externado, del Valle, Ea t and is currently and Associate Professor of economics at the Universidad Nacional, the biggest and most important public university in the country.
For five years, he has been nominated as Best University Professor in Colombia, an award granted by local financial newspaper Portafolio. He has academic publications in refereed journals, and is editor of books such as “Mathematical Economics in Matlab” and “Monetary Policy Transmission Mechanisms in Colombia”.
